The Dwat Mahadev Temple is situated in Sirkund Panchayat of District Chamba in Himachal Pradesh. It is about 40 kilometers from the district headquarters of Chamba. The Dwat Mahadev Temple is a center of faith for many devotees. According to local belief, this temple was built by the Pandavas during their exile.

The Dwat Mahadev Temple, located at Mani, Sidhkund, Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, is known for its natural beauty. The snow-capped mountains and rich culture of this region represent the identity of the state.

One such mysterious Shiva temple is the Dwat Mahadev Temple of Chamba. The Chamba region is also known as the “Land of Lord Shiva.”

This temple of Lord Shiva is situated surrounded by the beautiful hills of the Chamba district. This Shiva temple, built at a place called Dawat in Sidhkund Panchayat, about 40 kilometers away from Chamba, is a center of faith for all Shiva devotees.

Devotees have unwavering faith in this temple of Lord Shiva. It is believed that this temple was built by the Pandavas during their Agyatwas (exile period).

The temple was ready overnight :Pandavas had come to this part of the Himalayas during their exile. He had built many temples in this area taking the form of present day Himachal. Pandavas built many big temples here, but the time taken to build this temple makes this temple different from other temples. It is said that this temple was built in one night only. Not only this, the stone used to build this temple was brought from a place called Shikridhar. Bringing stones from here overnight and building a temple is no less than a surprise.

The temple of Dawat Mahadev is the center of people's faith.

It is said that Mahabali Bhima did the work of making this impossible task possible. Devotees throng this temple during Mahashivaratri and during Sawan month. It is said that on asking for a wish with a true heart at the door of Lord Shiva, you get the desired result. People come from far and wide to visit this special temple of Lord Shiva.

Dwat Mahadev Mandhir in Chamba Himachal Pradesh  is a grand  temple surrounded by hills all around. The green trees of Deodar all around the temple add beauty to the temple. This temple is situated at an altitude of about 2300 meters above sea level.

The temple is situated in the Himalayan mountains at Shikri Dhar, surrounded by beautiful natural scenery.

The area around the temple includes:

Sikri Dhar hill is in front of Dwat Mahadev Mandhir. It is said that for the construction of this temple, the stones were brought in a single night after breaking the huge rock from Sikri Ghar. Its enchanting view surrounded by deodars fascinates the heart. The beautiful view of the hills of Khajjiar, Dalhousie, Chamba Jot, Padhari Jot around the temple is made only by seeing it. Sikri Dhar is also famous for its enchanting beauty. But due to lack of proper means of transport there, it is beyond the sight of the tourist. The  ” Khajji ka Khoppa” place  in Sikri Dhar is very beautiful.

How to reach Dwat Mahadev  Shiv Mandir

The nearest railway station to reach Dwat Mahadev Shiv Mandir is Pathankot Cantonment railway station, which is well connected by rail with major cities across India.

From Pathankot, one can travel by road to Chamba in Himachal Pradesh by bus or by car. The distance from Pathankot to Chamba is approximately 150 kilometers.

To reach Dwat Mahadev Shiv Mandir, the route continues from Chamba towards Sidhkund and Mani village.

Distance details:

  • Chamba to Sirkund – approximately 22 km

  • Sirkund to Mani – approximately 7 km

  • Mani to Siganhar – approximately 5 km

After Siganhar, the remaining route to the temple is more adventurous:

  • About 4 km off-road track

  • Followed by 2 km walking path

After completing this short trek, devotees reach Dawat, where the sacred Dwat Mahadev Shiv Mandir is located and can have the darshan of Lord Shiva (Bhole Shankar).
